2018 Hyundai Sonata Safety Ratings & Features

Without a doubt, one of the most demanding automotive tests in the industry is the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety’s. The highest safety rating a vehicle can receive from the IIHS is the TOP SAFETY PICK+, and this year the 2018 Hyundai Sonata – when equipped with the optional front crash prevention and dynamic bending headlights – received this great accolade. We thought we’d dive into the features that led to the Sonata winning this recognition, to give you an even better idea of what this great sedan has to offer.

Advanced Safety Technologies

First of all, the IIHS increased the requirements that a vehicle needs to meet in order to receive the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation. This year, a vehicle needed to earn good ratings in all five crashworthiness tests, offer an available front crash prevention system that has earned either an advanced or superior rating and receive an acceptable rating in the headlight test at the very least.

To help the 2018 Sonata pass these heightened requirements, Hyundai built in a ton of advanced safety technologies, including: Vehicle Stability Management, Electric Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Brake Assistance, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist and, of course, the front crash prevention system and dynamic bending headlights.
